Your guide to creating software in the AI era

Hi, and welcome to the very first edition of The Atomic Builder—your go-to guide for building software in an AI-powered world! Thank you for being here! I’m excited to have you join this journey where Product Managers, entrepreneurs, and non-technical creators can discover how to go from idea → design → MVP → iteration—all without needing to write a single line of code (or at least, not nearly as much as before).

A Quick (!) Personal Story

My name is Faisal Shariff. I didn’t go to the “right” schools (whatever that means), my path has been what some might call unconventional (I’ll share that over an Earl Grey sometime…) - but it’s been fueled by grit, determination, and a boundless (if often reckless) optimism that many of you might relate to.

Over the last 25 years (gulp!) I’ve navigated the choppy seas (!) of Finance & Product Management—juggling user stories, roadmaps, and business goals. Time and again, I’ve found myself—and witnessed brilliant non-technical creators—stuck, waiting for help to turn their concepts into reality.

But guess what? The landscape is changing. Fast ⚡️.

AI: The Ultimate Enabler

AI is emerging as the ultimate enabler, empowering us to prototype, design, and build software faster than ever. And 2025 feels like the year where things will really break through.

I’ll admit, right now, it’s a little messy. In fact, it’s messier than people like to admit. So I’m not entirely sure how smoothly this will all go. We’re on the cusp of something new, potentially brilliant, but the tools aren’t perfect yet.

I’ve experienced this firsthand in building early prototypes of the Product Workbench and Product Trio (without writing a single line of code myself…). I expect to face hurdles and likely even fail here or there. But as AI continues to evolve in 2025, I think it’ll become far easier than it is today.

My mission here is simple: I want to show you that “Anyone can build now.”

Reimagining the Role of Product Managers

Traditionally, Product Managers handled the “what” and development teams handled the “how.” But with the emergence of tools like Bolt, Loveable, and Replit’s agent (we’ll explore this landscape in future issues), the line between PM and software developer is starting to blur. Frankly, you could argue many roles are starting to blur in this new world order.

  • No longer do you have to rely on a dev team to validate an idea.

  • No longer do you have to stare at a blank screen, not knowing how to build a basic prototype.

  • No longer do you have to wait weeks—or months—to show stakeholders a tangible MVP.

I strongly believe (there’s that reckless optimism again!) the next wave of product innovators will be PMs and creators who can “build with AI”—testing ideas and iterating faster than ever before.

So, why isn’t everyone doing it? Let’s cut to the chase. As I said, inconsistent today, requires some perseverance and the occasional bout of tearing your hair out... My hope is that, through this newsletter, I’ll share both the wins and stumbles, so we can learn together and shape the conversation around modern product management - and how AI might help us all become better at this.

What to Expect: Building, Learning, and Scouting Together

This won’t be just another guide or a weekly roundup of ‘top tools’—there are already plenty of those out there doing a great job. Instead, this will be a space to explore what’s possible at the intersection of AI and product management. Each issue will be designed to help you grow your skills, tackle challenges, and push boundaries. Here’s what you can look forward to:

🔨 Build Series: Hands-on, step-by-step guides for creating software MVPs, from idea to prototype to launch. These issues will focus on the “how” of building great products.

📚 Learn Series: Deep dives into tools, techniques, and concepts that will sharpen your product strategy and skills, helping you seamlessly integrate AI into your workflow.

💡 Scout Series: Fresh insights into innovative ideas, emerging trends, and creative tools that stretch your imagination and reveal new possibilities.

Each issue will belong to one of these themes, or combine them, giving you both practical takeaways and broader insights into what it means to lead in an AI-powered world. (Exciting, right?!!)

What’s Next?

Over the next few issues, we’ll walk through a complete product journey—from that initial spark of an idea all the way to a small but fully functional MVP. In our next issue, we’ll talk about Pinpointing the Pain—why focusing on the right problem is more important than leaping straight into building. Because let’s face it: the coolest MVP in the world isn’t worth much if it doesn’t solve a real need.

We’re just getting started, and I can’t wait to build alongside you 👊.

Thanks for subscribing!

I’m excited to help usher in this new wave of AI-empowered product builders. If you have any questions or want to share your own experiences (the successes and the failures), feel free to reply to this email or connect with me on socials. I’d love to hear from you.

See you next time!
